Okay…….so you have invested a lot of time obtaining quality deep links to the internal pages of your website but you are still not satisfied with the search engine ranking. Where did you go wrong? Did all of your hard work go to waste? If you know for a fact you have linked to websites with high quality content and the links match the content on the internal page, it may ease your mind to know your time has not been wasted. However, deep linking does not end here. You still have to consider internal link structure for deep links. What is Internal Link Structure? Internal link structure refers the actual clickable text on the link coming into your site. This text is known as “link text” or “anchor text.” The two phrases are synonymous with one another, so if you are doing further research on internal link structure, both terms refer to the same strategy. Why Does Internal Link Structure Matter? If you have not paid attention to this aspect of your deep linking strategy, it could be to blame for a lower ranking with the search engines. Why? Anchor Text Association with Web Page: When you think of the term “anchor,” it generally means a point of support, or a means of securing something such as a vessel in the water with a rope. By this definition, anchor text that provides a link to your site essentially serves the same purpose, so it must relate to the content on the page it is linking to. Keywords: Each page of content on your website is associated with specific keywords that you determine during your keyword research. If the page content is based on these keywords then they also need to appear the “link text” or “anchor text.” This step ensures the content the visitor is about to view is exactly what they are looking for. If the search words are absent, the link ends up misleading the visitor and they are more likely to click away from the page immediately after they arrive. Search Engines: The search engine spiders view your page along with all of the backlinks and deep links that are connected to your home page and internal pages. In the eyes of the search engine, your pages have more validity if the links are directly associated with the content on each page. This further improves your search engine ranking as well as provides you with specifically targeted organic traffic. A word of caution about using keywords in the anchor text: Remember to avoid keyword stuffing at all costs, because this defeats the purpose and creates confusion for the person viewing the link. The anchor text should use keywords, and at the same token, make it clear to the visitor exactly what to expect after clicking on the link. Link Placement: As part of the internal link structure, the search engines also take into account the placement of an internal link. As a general rule, most webmasters place the internal links in the content area of the page because they are considered helpful links. If they are placed in other areas of the pages the search engines may interpret them as being hidden and insignificant. Internal link structure for deep links is an important strategy if you are to get optimum results from organic searches. Keep in mind that the anchor text is one of the key factors that tell the search engine exactly what the page is about. If you get the internal linking strategy right the first time, you will not need as many links on your website to get great search engine rankings. Great Tips on Getting Website Owners to Provide Incoming LinksTuesday, July 21st, 2009It is a known fact by website owners that high quality incoming links to your website can increase your search engine ranking as well as bring highly targeted traffic to your Web pages. Most website owners are familiar with a lot of incoming link strategies. The question still remains among many website owners as to exactly how to approach other website owners to request a link. Here are some creative ways to getting other websites to link to yours. Creative Ways to Get High Quality Incoming Links Offer Free Stuff: Everyone likes to get something for free and this is a great strategy to use for obtaining incoming links to your site. For instance, if you happen to have a site that has a paid membership section, offer the website owner a free membership in exchange for providing a link to your Web page. Offer the other website owner free content that you have written and ask to leave a link to your Web page at the end of the content. One word of caution: Make sure it is high quality content and not something you obtained from a website that allows you to re-publish the information on another site for free. The content should really be unique and original. In addition, search engines do not appreciate duplicate content. Offer a Testimonial: When you find a website that has high quality information that is relevant to your website, offer to write a testimonial for the site in exchange for a link back to your site. This could also include a review of the site along with notable sections that will provide a special benefit to the readers. Niche Expertise: Although your website content is relevant to another site, you may possess expertise in a specific niche related to the subject matter. Offer the website owner a few free sessions in exchange for an incoming link to your Web page. Offer a High Quality Publication: Perhaps you have an ebook related to information on the website you want to link with. Allow the website owner to offer it as a free bonus to their clients in exchange for an incoming link to your site. Social Bookmarking: Create a network on a social bookmarking site and then promote your site along with the other members of your network. Offer a Review: Offer to write a review on one of the products being offered on the website you would like to receive an incoming link from. Create a Video: Create and upload a video with high quality content that is useful to people interested in your subject matter, and sites that are relevant to that subject matter. Offer to share the video with the website you would like to link with so that their clients can benefit from the information as well. Promote Others: Offer to run a promotion on your site regarding something of value that is being offered on the site with which you wish to request an incoming link. Option to Send: When you publish quality content in a blog or directory, include an option that allows the reader to email the content to their friends. Create a Survey: Create a survey on your product or service through a site such as Survey Monkey and ask your opt-ins to participate and then help to spread the word. If you do your research, there are many creative ways to approach website owners and convince them to provide you with an incoming link. Keep in mind that it is always best and easiest to make an offer and create a scenario that ensures that everyone wins. |
